Prior to joining Mutual Lance worked for the Local Authority in children’s social care for 22 years, and started by working for 5 years in residential children’s homes which ignited his passion to qualify as a social worker and pursue a career to improve the lives of Devon’s vulnerable children. Lance holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Social Work. Since then, he has worked as a social worker and manager supporting children in care, children with disabilities and complex needs, initial response, and 8 ½ years as a manager within the fostering service. During this time he managed the children’s placements team and the Exeter fostering team. 

Outside of work, Lance really enjoys cooking, cycling, gym, trying to play guitar, and restoring old motorbikes

Jamie has worked in this sector for over 10 years now, having worked with all kinds of young people.  Jamie also has a wide range of work experience from being on shift to being a registered manager to delivering many different training courses. Jamie is new to Mutual Care and very excited to help improve and expand Mutual Care.

Phil has worked in the care sector for a long time, previously working as a deputy manager in residential care for 12 years supporting young people with EBD, Phil has supported people from all walks of life from different ages and different situations and uses that knowledge to help young people through their journey at Mutual Care.  Phil uses his passions to encourage and develop the likes and skills of the young people within the homes to help grow their interest and encourage personal growth.

Michelle is the company Administrator, based in the central office.  As the hub of the company, Michelle regularly communicates with Senior Management and staff in a broad range of tasks.  These include Training; Recruitment and HR.  She manages the company’s HR software and working alongside the Accountants and Senior Managers she coordinates Payroll.  Michelle regularly minutes meetings and updates the home’s official documents when needed.

Michelle’s confidence and knowledge has grown in the time she has been with the company and she is excited about her future with Mutual Care as the company expands.

Sarah has a very wide range of skills and experiences from her previous roles, she spent 15 years in the military before working for 18 years in education, Sarah has used all of those transferable skills and shared them with mutual, where she has been working for 18 months. Sarah quickly rose through the ranks to now be an assistant deputy manager. Sarah is very passionate about our children and mutual as a whole.

Jennie has many years’ experience of childcare, having previously worked for a private childcare company. She moved to Devon in 2001 and has taken on the roles of RSW, Senior RSW, Assistant Manager and House Manager for different homes. In 2023 Jennie decided a change was needed and joined Mutual Care.

Our People 13

David started working in residential care over 20 years ago and since then, has worked in various settings. These include educational, custodial and medical settings, often working with hard-to-reach clients in challenging environments.

David has developed various teams across these sectors and has specialised in substance misuse and the criminal justice field before returning to residential care.

Vennbridge Farm was re-opened in April 2023 with David being the registered manager, in May he also took on the management of Rose Cottage.
